About Clariana
Clariana is a school, a community, and a shop dedicated to ikebana. It is a peaceful and welcoming space in the center of Barcelona, devoted to ikebana, the traditional Japanese art of floral arrangement.
We have a workshop-classroom where we offer weekly lessons and a specialized shop with vases, tools, books, and all the materials needed for its practice.
We are a school affiliated with Ikenobo, the Japanese school where ikebana was born more than 500 years ago.
We follow the Ikenobo learning system, offering the possibility of obtaining official certification recognized in Japan.
Our classes are a space to connect with nature, work from a place of calm, and discover the fleeting beauty that surrounds us.
Practicing ikebana with us means opening yourself to the here and now, learning to appreciate every element, and allowing yourself to be surprised.
Clariana was born from the desire to continue the learning and practice of ikebana in Barcelona: a space where beautiful things happen and where one can feel at peace — enjoying the flowers, touching the leaves, and finding that special branch.
Our wish is to ensure that ikebana can continue to be studied and practiced in Barcelona, by inviting teachers from Japan and promoting complementary activities that enrich the community.
Where Clariana was born
I’m Carola, and I began practicing ikebana in the late 1990s, without ever imagining that it would become such an essential part of my life. Over time, it has grown into a way of seeing nature, life, and my surroundings with new eyes — appreciating small things and understanding that we are part of nature itself.
Ikebana has taught me to seek simple beauty, to accept impermanence, and to learn through the hands-on act of making. It has also shown me how to find beauty in everything: in the withered leaf, in the budding sprout, and in the flower reaching for the light — and to understand the passing of time as a continuous cycle that invites us to value every change.
From this spirit, Clariana was born: a space to learn and share ikebana through the Ikenobo methodology, in small groups, and a shop where you can find the tools and materials that make its practice possible.
But above all, I wanted Clariana to be a place where beautiful things happen — where people feel comfortable and at ease, and where, perhaps, the lives of those who take part become a little better every day.
